The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) has channeled millions of dollars of humanitarian aid and financial assistance to Türkiye over the course of two very critical weeks following the Kahramanmaraş earthquake, deploying 1,700 search officers who rescued 75 survivors. OTS's recently appointed Secretary General Kubanychbek Omuraliev has established cooperation and signed a historic deal with UN-Habitat to promote sustainable human settlements. The OTS, formerly called the Turkic Council, is an international organization comprising prominent independent Turkic countries that work together to elevate relations and the union among themselves. Its members are Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. Hungary, Turkmenistan, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) carry observer status.

Türkiye expresses sincere gratitude to more than 100 countries that sent in highly dedicated rescue teams and generous volumes of aid following the twin earthquakes that hit 11 southern provinces at 7.7 and 7.6 magnitudes on February 6, 2023. As the scale of the devastation nears the size of France, the death toll surpasses 42,000, with 13 million survivors in need of urgent aid. Earthquake Relief Efforts
13 FEBRUARY 2023

Receiving a record amount of immediate international aid that arrived with 9,400 personnel from 77 countries, two 7.7 magnitude earthquakes with dozens of powerful aftershocks from a depth of 7km struck southern Türkiye on the morning of February 6th, 2023, leveling 10 major cities, with an estimated death toll of 40,000 people. Felt as far away as Israel, the quakes that impacted the middle east at large destructed parts of northern Syria as well. The tectonic movements caused the southwestern part of the Anatolian plateau to crack and slide 3 meters towards the Mediterranean, which in effect created tsunamis that flooded Türkiye's Iskenderun district. International relief efforts poured in at a historic scale and saved countless lives amidst harsh winter conditions, with several EU countries dispatching rescue teams to search for survivors.

Türkiye-South Korea Relations
6 FEBRUARY 2023

Faced with restrictions enacted by western countries, Türkiye delves into a series of defence co-operations with South Korean firms to reduce dependence on arms exporters from the US, Russia and the EU. Offered by South Korea's S&T Heavy Industries, a $200 million deal supplying 1,500-horsepower automatic transmission until 2030 as part of a $217.9 million deal for Türkiye's main battle tank, the Altay manufactured by BMC. This deal replaces an earlier deal with a German firm, that collapsed because of an embargo imposed on Türkiye in 2019. Similarly, a Turkish firm, SDT Space and Defence Technologies is set to supply parts for South Korea's domestically developed fighter jet, as a more reasonable option than the F35s from the US.
