Boasting on the success of having the sixth-largest network of embassies globally, Türkiye's foreign policy and ongoing diplomatic success receive global recognition and appreciation in the East, West, and the Arab world. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. President Erdoğan reiterates Türkiye's support for Ukraine's sovereignty and signs a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the reconstruction of its infrastructure devastated by the ongoing Russian invasion. Clashes in Karabakh
15 AUGUST 2022

Two years after Azerbaijan reclaimed large parts of Karabakh with support from Türkiye, clashes have broken out yet again between Azerbaijan and Armenia, this time near the Lachin corridor and other places along the ‘Line of Contact.' Baku accuses Yerevan of not meeting the provisions of their hard-earned 2020 peace deal, lauded for ending the brutal war that cost 6,600 lives. Although the Russian-brokered peace deal has redefined Karabakh as an internationally recognized Azerbaijani territory, Armenia dares to continue her 30-year-long illegal occupation in the region, especially at this critical juncture that reviews and renews all international alliances against the Russian aggression.

Turkiye-Russia Relations
8 AUGUST 2022

Following their meeting in Tehran, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi. They discussed the highly-publicized grain deal brokered by Türkiye, an agreement that enables the shipment of millions of tons of grain stuck in Ukraine. Also on the agenda was the situation in northern Syria, where Türkiye and Russia support opposite sides. As Türkiye plans a new operation against Syria's opposition fighters backed by Russia, establishing a safe zone along the border requires Russia to stabilize those areas that fight Syrian regime forces.

EU's Migrant Pushback Policy
1 AUGUST 2022

Greece's inhumane pushback of illegal migrants in the Mediterranean, conducted as part of the EU's border patrol effort via the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) takes center stage in Turkiye's rebuttal on Germany's mention of human rights practices, questioning Osman Kavala's 4.5-year-long incarceration. In her first diplomatic visits to Greece and Türkiye, Germany's newly-appointed Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock vouches for the Greek claims in the Aegean, indirectly honoring the illegal militarization of the demilitarized Greek islands. Her one-sided approach receives criticism from Turkish FM Mevlut Çavuşoğlu, who then mentions Greece's human rights abuses in the case of migrant pushbacks, and the mistreatment of Turkish-Greeks, considering Germany's support of Greece as one that tarnishes Germany's neutrality, risking her revered meditator position between the two neighbors.
