Malaysia, embroiled in maritime disputes in the South China Sea, has been looking to bolster its naval capabilities. Having earlier this year purchased Türkiye's Anka-S drones for surveillance and reconnaissance missions, Malaysia turned to Türkiye, whose MILGEM project boasts the delivery of several ships to Pakistan's navy. Malaysian Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin visited Ankara this week and announced plans to purchase three Turkish corvettes, which marks the first government-to-government defense deal between Türkiye and Malaysia.

Via Carpathia Highway Project
2 JUNE 2024

Diversifying transport routes has become a global priority due to the Ukraine War and conflicts in the Middle East, which have disrupted global trade. The Via Carpathia Highway Project aims to address this issue by creating a road corridor from Klaipeda in Lithuania to Constanta in Romania onto Thessaloniki in Greece. While the long stretch of highway connects the Baltic Sea with the Black Sea and the Aegean, European countries are planning to have Türkiye connect them further to the Gulf and the Caspian Sea. The plan works well for Türkiye, situated in a prime spot that boasts lofty connections to the Middle Corridor transport route leading to Beijing, as well as Iraq's Development Road Project reaching out to the energy-rich Gulf.
