Landmark Grain Deal
25 JULY 2022

After months of negotiations, a UN-brokered grain deal between Türkiye, Ukraine, and Russia allows Ukraine to resume its exports, transporting grain safely through three Ukrainian ports near Odesa, reaching world markets through the Black Sea and the Turkish Straits. Signed in Ankara, the agreement marks the first step toward easing a global food crisis that followed Russia's war on Ukraine. Türkiye is scheduled to coordinate the execution and inspection of the exports from a coordination center in Istanbul.

Iran's Drone Power
18 JULY 2022

Iran builds a drone factory in Tajikstan, recognized for its weaker cooperation with Türkiye, especially compared to the other Turkic Republics. This new enterprise in Tajikistan dates as the first of its kind, built in a foreign country for Iran. Iran is also set to provide Russia with hundreds of its domestically-manufactured armed drones to Russia to aid Kremlin's war effort against Ukraine. It is critical to foresee the impact Iran's growing drone capabilities will have on Central Asia, especially in the aftermath of the Taliban's takeover, as well as in the broader region, including Syria and the South Caucuses.

Türkiye-NATO Relations
4 JULY 2022

Türkiye achieves its goals in this year's NATO Summit after weeks of pressing the urgency of a series of conditions on Sweden and Finland's bids to join the NATO alliance. Following weeks of tense negotiations, NATO meets Ankara's concerns over their ongoing support for terror groups, and facilitate the three countries to sign a memorandum that has the two Nordic countries agreeing on cooperating fully with Türkiye in its fight against the PKK and other related terrorist groups. Both countries also agreed to lift an arms embargo on Türkiye. The summit also sets the scene for Turkish and US Presidents to discuss a series of topics from NATO's enlargement, and the conflict in Ukraine, to stability in the Aegean and Syria.
